This week Eric Hobson reminds of a military universal – Mail Call
Life lessons can come at the most unusual times. My new mother-in-law was good at sending me care packages. As a good son-in-law I always sent her a thank you note. One care package contained among other things a can of sardines in tomato sauce. Well, I hate sardines, but had never had them in tomato, so I thought to give ‘em a try. Now the worst sardines. but close.
Well how do you be a diplomatic and tell the mother of your new wife that they sucked, big time. I guess I’m not cut out to be a diplomat. I told her the honest truth in my next letter to her: They were the best sardines I ever tasted. If regular canned sardines in olive oil are a 10 out of 10 on my dislike food list these were only a nine and a half. See the truth, but not the whole truth.
The old saying ‘no good deed goes unpunished” applies here. The next care package I got from her was a whole case of sardines in tomato sauce – sheesh. Making lemonade out of lemons I used them as trading for other food stuff from buddies that actually liked the damn things.
